Many area teams in fact are in Tallahassee for a preseason classic this weekend. Arnold and Mosley among them.

We paid a visit to one of the latter’s practices this week as head coach Michelle Mask and her group look ahead to what they hope will be another big season.

The Lady Dolphins, who finished 21-9 last season, were district runner up to Arnold, then came back and beat Arnold in round two of the playoffs. Mosley then made it all the way to the region finals, losing to powerhouse Bishop Kenny in Jacksonville.

One reason to believe they can repeat, or even build on that success, the return of T’ara Ceasar, who spent last season with Rutherford, after playing with Mosley as a freshman.

They also return key starters like Kiana Yangson and Kenley Adams.

“Well we knew we were going to have to have a tough summer working out,” said Mask. “And we kind of knew going into the summer that we were gonna work as hard we could all summer to prepare for the fall. And the girls started hard in July. We went to Auburn, we went to U.F., we went two-a-days pretty much all summer. Oh my gosh we went as far as hiring personal trainers. And it’s the first time we’ve ever done it, we had MVP Sports Performance come out here and three times a week he’d come out and he’d do training with the girls, so I think it’s gonna show.”

The season begins for real for Mosley and other area teams next week. The Lady ‘Fins host Catholic in their opener Tuesday at 6.
